5 year old granddaughter Sana helps her aunts collect grass. Grass
cutting is a staple income-generating activity in the region: it is
dried and sold for fodder but earns the Bibis only £12 per week. ‘If your father dies, cut grass,’
goes the Kashmiri proverb. For communities with little capital, grass
cutting translates into feeding your family tomorrow and there is
no perceived alternative. |
